Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill, born at Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, Oxfordshire on the 30 November 1874 was a British politician and author, best known as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom during the Second World War. At various times a soldier, author and politician, Churchill is generally regarded as one of the most important leaders in modern British and world history. He won the 1953 Nobel Prize in Literature. He was a Freemason and died at Hyde Park Gate, London on the 24 January 1965 and is buried next to his father and mother in the village of Bladon near Woodstock.
